Seattle Weekend Getaway: Sleeping Lady Resort at Leavenworth
One of the most popular weekend getaways from Seattle is Leavenworth, a picturesque Bavarian village just a two-hour jaunt from the city.
My family and I journeyed into the mountains for a night’s stay at Sleeping Lady Resort. Sleeping Lady is about a five-minute drive from the main village area, nestled into the mountains and at this time of year, underneath a blanket of snow. Something I loved about Sleeping Lady even before we stepped out of the car was how close it is to the action in downtown Leavenworth - although it sits on six acres of the most beautiful land, so you don’t have to leave the resort if you don’t want to.
Accommodations at Sleeping Lady are arranged in clusters of cabins, which make for some privacy and some incredible cabin window coziness. I loved the vaulted ceilings and exposed beams in our lodge. As you can see, it’s dog-friendly too!
We got to the resort after nightfall, so we settled into our cabin then set off to the Kingfisher restaurant for dinner. The Kingfisher is a high-end buffet, with a thoughtful offering of dishes for every palate. Still, I’d recommend that you take a stroll through the buffet to see all of the offerings before going around with your plate. Your eyes can easily outpace your tummy!
Don’t miss the Chihuly sculpture that sits just outside of Kingfisher. It’s stunning all year round, but was especially breathtaking with a layer of snow on top!
We took Spike for a moonlit walk after dinner to take in the grounds. We stayed in the Forest cluster of cabins, which were right next to most of the resort’s amenities. There’s 24-hour access to the library and fitness center, and there’s also a pool, hot pool, and dry sauna to take advantage of. Sleeping Lady also has lots of flex space for conferences, meeting space, weddings, and entertainment.
Breakfast at Kingfisher was just as delightful as dinner. I was impressed by all the organic and gluten-free options, even in the bread bar! They had a fresh-squeezed juice made from several different fruits that was incredible. We asked for a late checkout, which allowed us to enjoy the grounds and get a workout in before heading to downtown Leavenworth for lunch and to head home.
Check out Sleeping Lady Resort for your next getaway, or if you’re looking for conference space or a wedding venue!
