Local Luxury: Stay at the Hotel Theodore Seattle

Are you or a loved one in search of the perfect chic downtown Seattle hotel for your next visit? Look no further than the Hotel Theodore, which opened in the heart of downtown’s retail core late last year.

We stayed in the Hotel Theodore in December for another holiday staycation and indulged in lots of local flavor and luxurious details.

You may remember the Roosevelt Hotel, which once occupied this art deco tower on 7th and Pine and was the largest hotel in the city back when it opened in 1929. After quite the update by Provenance Hotels, the Hotel Theodore and Rider Seattle opened just in time for the holidays last year. The Theodore boasts a ton of local, handcrafted, and custom artifacts within its walls. 

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by an apertivo hour in the beautiful atrium decorated with lush, modern leather and wood furniture. The hallway on our floor had this gorgeous art deco geometric carpet - the entire hotel inspired some serious “I have this thing with floors” vibes really. Our corner suite was equally impressive, with historical Seattle artifacts from MOHAI, subway tile and matte black details in the separate bathroom and shower/bathtub room, and rich, moody textures and colors adorning the walls. 

A bottle of red from Robert Ramsay Cellars awaited us in our room, and we were more than happy to imbibe during our short rest before dinner.

Rider Seattle is one of my favorite new restaurants in the downtown area. An ode to the forest and the ocean - two of the most defining pieces of Seattle’s geography and economy - Rider’s menu is full of incredible flavors to start (or end) your night in the city. We were there for dinner with the pre-show theatre crowd in town for Elf at the Paramount. The stunning space was abuzz with energy from theatergoers, intimate holiday party dinners, and people like us on date night. 😃 The food and drinks were magnificent; it’s no surprise Jonathan Fleming (Ciudad, Bar Sajor, RN74) is part of the team behind Rider.

There are plenty of other delightful amenities to take advantage of at Hotel Theodore, like complimentary parking;  honor bars in each room stocked with local bites and libations; a fabulous fitness center; and plenty of small to mid-sized (<100) event space for meetings or weddings.

If you’re looking to get out and about in the city, the Theodore is so well-situated and it’s easy to get anywhere quickly. You can walk to the convention center, Pacific Place, Westlake Center, Seattle Art Museum, Nordstrom’s Downtown Seattle flagship or Pike Place Market in just a few minutes. A few more minutes and you can be on the waterfront (and ride the Ferris wheel.) 

It’s just a two-minute ride on the Monorail to get you to Seattle Center, home of the Space Needle, Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP), Pacific Science Center, Chihuly Glass Garden & Museum, KeyArena, and some of the city’s most popular festivals (Bite of Seattle, Bumbershoot, and the Festal lineup to name a few.) You can hop in an Uber, Lyft, or onto the Link Light Rail to get up to Capitol Hill, University of Washington, or down to the International District, Pioneer Square, Safeco Field, CenturyLink Field, and the WaMu Events Center. You can also take the Light Rail to and from SeaTac Airport just a block away from the Theodore!
