Need a Quick Seattle Getaway? Head to The Lodges on Vashon!
/If you're looking for a quick getaway from Seattle or Portland, have a peek inside The Lodges on Vashon!
The Lodges invited my family and I out for an overnight stay last weekend. It had been years since I'd been to Vashon Island, even though it's a short ferry ride from Downtown or West Seattle. I loved spending summer days there with my family, fishing, clamming and soaking up lots of fun in the sun.
Vashon is every bit as quaint as I remember it, and The Lodges, which are right in the middle of the downtown area, have a boutique hotel vibe that my fiance and I love staying in. So boutiquey, in fact, that there isn't full-time staff on premise! We got codes to our lodge, the fitness center and the Public House communal area with our confirmation email.
Each lodge has a ton of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, and yet ours felt like it had lots of privacy to it. The Lodges have a rambler-style layout, with a long hallway connecting the rooms together. I could go on and on about our Meadow Suite, and honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite feature.
I loved the sleeping nook off the living room that served as a reading and work area for us but could also sleep another couple of people on the daybed and pull-out. I loved the little reading nook next to the electric fireplace. I loved the party shower with in-floor radiant heat and french doors leading to a private deck. I loved the extremely comfy bed I slept super hard in. I loved the wetbar area that had everything we needed (coffee, tea, wine, a place to prep Spike's food.)
Oh yes, I love that The Lodges are pet-friendly. Spike had a blast hanging out with mom and dad on the island!
We happened to be on the island the weekend of the Vashon Island art studio tour, which was a cool way to experience some of the local creative work. There was also the Winterfest parade and tree lighting, which was a little hampered by the pouring rain but was still holiday magical anyway.
We drove out to the Point Robinson lighthouse for a nice family park walk along the shore before it got too rainy and dark. My fiance and I enjoyed some of the downtown fare, including dinner at May Kitchen + Bar (the island's Thai place is very good by the way, and the silverware is incredible) and brunch at The Hardware Store. We also grabbed a quick snack at Pure Organic Kitchen + Juicery, because I am always looking for the green juice.
Most of our time was spent in our Lodge, and if we could, we would have spent every second and then some there. I can definitely see us staying at The Lodges again for a staycation, a place to go if we needed a quiet spot to read or get some major work done, or even renting out some or all of the Lodges for a vacation with our family. The Lodges' communal spaces make the property perfect for an office retreat, wedding party, reunion or just hanging out with friends!
